interrogatives
qué, cuál, cómo, dónde, cuándo, quién, por qué, cuánto — interrogative pronouns/adverbs. Always carry a written accent to distinguish from their relative counterparts (que vs qué, cuando vs cuándo).
Examples
¿Qué quieres?
→ What do you want?
qué (with accent) — interrogative.
El libro que leo.
→ The book that I read.
que (no accent) — relative; same word visually but never accented in this use.
¿Cuál prefieres?
→ Which do you prefer?
cuál asks for a choice from a known set; English `which`.
