stem-changing verbs
In stressed syllables of present tense, certain verbs change their stem vowel: e→ie (querer→quiero), o→ue (poder→puedo), e→i (pedir→pido). 'Boot' shape: nosotros/vosotros forms keep the original vowel.
Examples

→ quiero
e→ie under stress
Nosotros ___ café (querer).
→ queremos
Unstressed → no change

→ puedo
